:: Last Minute Weekend Away ::

This weekend just gone, we had to go out of town to pick up our new (secondhand) car from a dealer a few hours away. With all our crazy stuff going on lately with my husband changing jobs, we thought it would be nice to tie the road trip in with visiting my husband's sister, and spending some time in a touristy town that was nearby, that I'd always wanted to visit, Berry! It was quite a rushed last minute trip, but very nice to indulge a little too. I told my husband I was going to spend up big, seen as he was making us rush off for the weekend, when I'd been sick & at work all week! We left really early on Saturday morning, and the road we took through Kangaroo Valley (such a gorgeous part of the world, I would love to live there) was very winding and steep at times (thanks to the Great Dividing Range). We had a delicious lunch at the Berry Sourdough Bakery on the way through, and had a quick wander around the streets there. We visited my sister in law and her family, who have recently relocated to a lakeside home, so the kids and their cousins did some bird feeding (hmmm, should seabirds have bread?) and played together, before we had a great dinner out at a nearby coastal town. We stayed the night in Berry, as coincidentally the Berry Markets were on that weekend, which made me happy. Little did we know that there was also a bike show and a quilt show on the same weekend. Having stayed there though, we were up early and enjoyed a very indulgent & peaceful breakfast, before the 'tourists' all arrived (yes, we were tourists too!). A pleasant wander around the markets, buying an old plate ($4) and some beautifully packaged preserves to give to friends as a thank you present. The kids got to choose a small toy each, and both chose a preloved item, worth $5 and the other $2! We strolled the streets again, visited a few stores, and I went to the Berry Community Craft Centre, where I bought some jam and jelly, and got several chokoes for 20 cents each, and a couple of sprouting ones for free! So it wasn't quite the spending spree I threatened him with, which it never is with us. The time away from was good for us all, though, and here are some photos of what we got up to!
